Question: Why are so many people against low carb dieting?
It’s not that so many people are against low carb dieting, it’s more that the anti-low carb lobby has been more effective in getting it’s message across than the low carb community has.
The main reason for this is that there are so many vested interests who want to protect their position and investments. This ranges from food scientists whose food theories have been proven wrong, to marketeers of high carb products who, if the low carb message was understood by the population as a whole, would stand to lose a hell of a lot of money as people abandon their worthless products.
It’s for those and other reasons that so many anti-low carb groups and spokesmen have risen up and got the support of the newspapers and other media outlets. It should not be overlooked that many of these folk I mentioned earlier – particularly the manufacturers spend a lot of money with the media in advertising. That’s one of the reasons that their message gets aired more than the truth about controlled carb diets.
It’s an unfortunate by-product of this modern age that the average person is, in many ways, too lazy to go and find out the truth. They tend to believe just what they see on the television or read in the newspapers without looking at the real facts behind those particular stories. This is why your uncles, aunties, brothers, sisters, friends, neighbours and everybody else look at you in horror when you say “I’ve just started low-carb”! They then turn around and say that low-carb is bad for you because you’ll get a heart attack or this that and the other.
Simply ask them for the proof of what they affirm and then ask them also what studies they’ve read about it in order to back up what they’re claiming. Nine times out of ten, that will shut most people up!
